NextSource Materials aims to become a vertically integrated, global supplier of critical battery and technology materials through the mining and value-added processing of graphite and other minerals. NextSource’s Molo graphite mine in Madagascar has begun production.
NextSource is also seeking to develop a downstream graphite value-add business to supply battery and automotive customers, in a fully transparent and traceable manner. NextSource has announced plans to develop its first battery anode facility in the UAE.
Key features
- Molo graphite mine located in southern Madagascar
- Simple open-pit mining with negligible strip ratio and conventional concentrate processing
-
Commissioning of the first phase of operations commenced in March 2023
- First commercial shipments of graphite concentrate to Germany and USA in October 2024
- Graphite has multiple applications due to its properties of heat resistance, electromagnetic shielding and electrical conductivity
- Utilising well-established, best-in-class graphite anode processing technology
- Targeting development of its first battery anode facility in the UAE
- Graphite is the largest material by volume in lithium-ion batteries, across battery chemistries.
End uses
- Graphite is essential for refractories for steelmaking, aerospace applications, fire retardants, graphite foils, graphene and all lithium-ion batteries
-
Graphite is designated as a critical mineral in the US, UK, EU, Canada and Australia.
